As the school year began in September 1942, the four Nisei students moved on-campus and into residence halls. Barbara and Akiko moved to Mears Cottage, Hisaji moved into North Read Hall, and William to Gates Hall.

While the start of school year posed challenges for all students, this was heightened for the four Nisei students who experienced a broad range of new experiences during their first semester.
